Carolyn sits down with her back against a wall just outside of the Nexus place. She leans her head back against it and closes her eyes for a second.

"I think my life has just gotten a lot more complicated. I knew I should have taken the doctor's advice and gotten therapy."

Carolyn looks at him curiously for a second, she can barely even see him in the dark. She shakes her head and starts fumbling around in her bag for her bottle of water.

"Well, okay but just for the record, I'm only a nightmare if I don't get enough sleep." She says tryng to lighten the mood.

He grins again. "Or if you're stuck on a desert planet with an escaped con."

Carolyn smiles and finally grabs the bottle.

"It wasn't the escaped con that was so bad there... I'd have to say it was the flesh eating flying monsters, you I could deal with."

"Ah, yes. Those. A bit annoying weren't they?"

"Just a tad..."

She takes a sip of her water.

"I certainly won't be suggesting them as the newest pets..." She trails off and looks over at him. "I'm not keeping you from anything am I?"

He looks a little distraced. "Wha? No. No. Nothing to do around here anyway."

"Are you sure?" She shrugs, looks down and starts fiddling with her bottle. "I mean I don't want you to think you have to nurse-maid me."

He snaps beack to reality. "No...I want to be here. I...have a question for you."

"Well... as long as you don't want any credits cause I don't have many of them left. But go ahead ask."

"Why did you go back for me?" His eyes are serious, searching her own.

Carolyn takes a deep breath as she considers how to answer.

"Because, I wasn't going to just leave you out there to get eaten by those... things." She pauses and looks at him with a serious expression on her face. "When I said I'd die for them, you were included. The only reason I said I wouldn't die for you was to piss you off enough so you would keep moving."

His eyes narrow, and he concentrates, trying to use his new 'powers' to see if she's telling th truth. Nothing. Self-centered bastard. You actually thought it was possible?
"Didn't work did it?"

Carolyn furrows her brows then starts smiling.

"You're here, so I'd say it worked. Maybe not in the exact way I had intended, I could have done without the whole getting speared through the back part but... still you survived."

"Yeah, I survived. Whole lotta good that did." His voice is bitter. The ache in his chest starting anew.

Carolyn squares her shoulders than reaches out and places her hand on his shoulder when she notices the bitterness in his tone. If he yells at her she'll deal with it the same way she's been dealing with everything since she got out of the hospital.

"Hey... who's expecting you to be perfect and never make a single mistake? Couldn't this place be like a second or third or whatever chance for us all?"

His eyes flick to the hand on his shoulder, then back to her face.
"I should have been able to save you. Al of you."

Carolyn draws her hand back and looks a bit sheepish.

"Since when did you become God? Sometimes, things happen the way they do for a reason." She shakes her head and laughs softly. "Now look what you've done, got me sounding like Imam."

Smirks. "As long as you don't start trying to kill Necros single handed."

"I'll try really hard not to unless I have too. I still do have my survival instinct after all."

"Of course." He gets up, holding out a hand to help her up as well.

Carolyn puts her bottle back in her bag before reaching up and taking his hand. She's a little surprised by how warm his hand is.

"Wouldn't be here if they got lost somewhere along the way."

"Probably not." He suddenly pulls her into a hug, laughing inwardly. The Nexus is turning you soft, old boy.

Carolyn's stunned when he pulls her into his embrace. She drops her bag then slowly, hesitantly puts her arms around his waist.

"Definitely not!"

He holds her tight for a little longer than necessary, before letting go and taking a half-step back, looking a little awkward.
"Uh...yeah. It's good to see you."

Carolyn suddenly finds the pavement the most fascinating thing she's even seen when he lets her go.

"Yeah, it's good to see you too," She raises her gaze and smiles. "Riddick."
