Carolyn sits down with her back against a wall just outside of the Nexus place. She leans her head back against it and closes her eyes for a second.

"I think my life has just gotten a lot more complicated. I knew I should have taken the doctor's advice and gotten therapy."

"Alright. What do you want to know?"

Carolyn sets aside her folder and sighs. Where to start?

"Okay obviously you survived and I can't remember if the other you said or not but did you stay with Jack and Imam?"

"Dropped them off on Helion Prime. Then I skipped out. Stayed on UV 9 for five years." He drops his hood, and sits down across from her.

"UV 9, think I've heard of that planet." She shrugs and taps her head. "Things are sometimes a bit fuzzy."

"Not an ideal spot for a vacation, frosen heap, nothing but ice." He shrugs a little, then goes on with the story.

"'Bout a year back, some Merc, Toombs came after me. Told me there was a new bounty on my head, from the Holy Man. So I paid a visit to the guy. Turns out, an Elemental wanted me alive, to fight some cult that was destroying the universe. But I had better things to do. Like going after Jack, when I found out she got thrown in the slam. On Crematoria. Still with me?"

Carolyn leans forward as she listens to him speaking. Little Jack in slam?! Cults taking over the 'verse?! Damn she has been out of the loop for awhile! But she's heard of Elementals, but always discounted the talk because well she mostly heard the rumors in bars and most of the people talking were drinking.

"Jack.. got sent to slam....? But yeah still with you."

"Right. So she changed her name to Kyra. Here's where it get's screwed up. In one 'verse. She and Kyra were two totally different people, something happened to them, and Kyra go her memories. In another 'verse, Kyra IS Jack." He sighs a little.

"Anyway, we busted out, but the Necros, that's the cult I was supposed to destroy. Found us first. I nearly died, and she got caught. I followed them, and killed their leader. But Jack/Kyra died as well."
He pauses, this part still hurts.

Carolyn reaches out toward him when she could swear that she spots a trace of regret flicker across his face but then draws her hand back. After his reaction to just her being alive... She leans her head back against the wall and tries to get her mind to accept everything he's saying.

"That's ... some story."

"Yeah, it is. What about you? What happened, after those things took you away?"

"I... I can't remember what happened after... well you know. One minute I'm watching you then the next I'm in a hospital, and they're telling me that there'd been a crash and a team of salvagers had found me, barely alive."

"A crash, huh?" He eyes her a moment before resting his head against the wall behind him and closing his eyes. "Perfect."

Carolyn looks at him for a second then snorts.

"Hey I didn't crash the damned thing! Anyway, once I was well enough, I booked a flight on the first ship out... There was no way I could go back to being a docking pilot, who'd hire me? Nobody! So I've been roaming..."

"Roaming. And you found the Nexus?" He smiles and raises a hand to brush a stray wisp of hair off her face, then stops, and pulls it back. The hell are you doing?

Carolyn holds herself as still as possible when he reaches for her then draws his hand back. She's not afraid of him, hell she stood up to him plenty of times back on hell, she just... the way he looked at her before, as if he was disappointed that she was alive. She smiles to hide her were her thoughts are headed.

"I was going back home... thought maybe the nightmares wouldn't follow me. Yeah, go ahead laugh, it sounds crazy I know."

"Running from nightmares. Nothing to laugh about. I've done it enough. What kind of nightmares?"

Coward, coward, coward! Up the alley, a garbage can flies into a wall, and above them, the lighbulb of a streetlamp explodes.

Carolyn's eyes get HUGE when she spots a garbage can flying through the air then jumps when all of a sudden something above her explodes and the light goes out. She closes her eyes for a minute and takes a few deep breaths. 'Nothing to worry about in the dark...'

"Yeah... Wait, you run from nightmares?"

"I ran from nightmares. Past-tense. I can't run from the new ones."

Carolyn arches her brow. Her earlier fright almost forgotten.

"You better not consider seeing me a nightmare."

Grins. "It was...something like that. I saw..." Shakes his head, serious again. "Forget it."

Carolyn looks at him curiously for a second, she can barely even see him in the dark. She shakes her head and starts fumbling around in her bag for her bottle of water.

"Well, okay but just for the record, I'm only a nightmare if I don't get enough sleep." She says tryng to lighten the mood.

He grins again. "Or if you're stuck on a desert planet with an escaped con."

Carolyn smiles and finally grabs the bottle.

"It wasn't the escaped con that was so bad there... I'd have to say it was the flesh eating flying monsters, you I could deal with."
